Chapter Board Meeting

MOAA Board Meeting August 14,  2010

CALL TO ORDER: LTC Syl Johnson called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM, offered the invocation and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

QUORUM: A quorum was established.  Those in attendance were LTC Johnson, LTC LePage, CAPT Rosen, Mrs. Green, Col Hakola, Lt Col Hines, COL Carol Reagles and LTC Mike Patterson.

MINUTES: The minutes of the May Board meeting were approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT: The Board reviewed and approved the Treasurer’s report.  A second signature is required for the Fairwinds accounts.  This will be accomplished before LTC Hines leaves town.

PROGRAM/COMMITTEE REPORTS

Program: The Speaker for September has not been established.  It is anticipated that 10 new members may attend the luncheon.

Membership: LTC Le Page reported that there are 399 members.  LTC Patterson announced that he is planning another mailer to a prospective group narrowed from the National MOAA list recently provided.

Newsletter: The deadline is August 20, 2010.

Recruiting: The next wheelchair ramp project will be scheduled for Feb-Mar. 2011.  LTC Patterson passed a list of contributions for the Golf Tournament.  It is now time to recruit foursomes to play in the Tournament October 23, 2010.  Please use the form in the newsletter to donate or sign up to play.  This event is our main fundraiser for the JROTC Scholarships.

The webmaster, Mike Pacquin, has offered his services on a month to month contract for $80 per month.  The Board agreed to the contract.  If you wish to advertise or submit information for inclusion to the webpage and links, please clear this information through LTC Le Page.

Nominating: CAPT Rosen polled the Board again.  Some Board positions are still available.  Please contact Capt Rosen if you are willing to serve.

OLD BUSINESS: The MOAA Chapter Presidents Symposium scheduled for September 16-18 will be attended by President Johnson, LTC Patterson for recruitment, LTC Ruzich  for the Officers Placement Service (TOPS) and LTC LePage representing the Florida Council of Chapters.  Because of this conflict with our normal Luncheon Meeting, the Luncheon meeting will be moved to a new date, September 25, at the Magnussen Hotel and Conference Center in Altamonte Springs.

LTC Johnson reported on his attendance at a Veteran event sponsored by US Representative Alan Grayson and the message of the guest speaker, Max Cleland.

NEW BUSINESS:

President Johnson will travel to Arlington to receive the National MOAA Excellence of Service Award for the Chapter.

Capt Rosen reported a good turnout for the RiverBoat Romance Cruise and thanked all for their participation.
