President’s Message
Feb 13th, 2010 | By admin | Category: President’s Message
Please note that the September Luncheon Meeting is SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2010. We regret that a change had to be made to our normal scheduled luncheon meeting. As mentioned in our August Newsletter, the date was changed to allow specific officers and directors to attend the Southeast Presidents MOAA symposium in Jacksonville, SEPTEMBER 18.
“Congratulations! Your chapter has been selected for the MOAA ‘Four Star Level of Excellence’ Award for exceptional performance in 2009. Your chapter stands out as one of the best chapters in MOAA’s system of over 400 chapters. You and the members of the chapter can be proud of this accomplishment.” This is a quote from the letter I received from VADM Norbert R. Ryan, Jr. USN (Retired), President of MOAA. There is not much I can add to the President letter other than to say how proud and humble I am for the accomplishments of our Officers, Directors, and members. This could not have been achieved, without your dedication and devotion. THANKS TO ALL!
Our chapter’s website is fully operational and you are encouraged to use it. As we are in our infancy, we expect your constructed comments on how to improve and refine for usefulness and easy to accessibility. Specially needed is information regarding our more than fifty (50) years of history. Our website may be accessed by entering moaacfc.com. Items for inclusion on the website must be approved by Bob LePage and/or Syl Johnson. Thanks to the team of Dennis and Mike Paquin who served as our designer and webmaster.
Our JROTC Scholarship Golf Tournament needs your help to continue to be successful. You can show your support by making/obtaining contributions for the silent auction, getting sponsorship, participating in the event, and by volunteering to help. Please call persons listed on the advertisement and indicate your choice of support for the team.
In addition to the scholarship awards provided locally by our chapter, the National MOAA Scholarship program provided educational assistance, interest-free loans or grants to seven (7) students located in Casselberry, Oviedo, Sanford, and Orlando. Our chapter educational assistance program of $10,000 with National MOAA was started in 1989 and completed in 1997. Each year since 1990, a student has been given financial aid in our chapter’s name as part of the Designated Scholar Program. Kevin P. Lee, a student at the University of Florida, majoring in Chemical Engineering received a $5,000 interest-free loan and a $500 grant on behalf of our chapter. Our initial investment allows our chapter to provide financial aid in perpetuity to well-deserving students.
